In order to undergo the process of fertilization, it is essential that pollen grain must reach the ovule to fertilize the egg. The pollen grains, comprising one vegetative cell and two polar nuclei travel from stigma through style, and eventually reaches ovule.

If they reach the ovule via chalaza end, then the condition is known as chalazogamy. If they reach the ovule through integuments, then the condition is called mesogamy, and if they reach the ovule through micropyle, then the condition is called porogamy.
