Metal -
1. Metal + Oxygen = Metallic oxides ( basic )
Eg. Mg + O = 2MgO
2. Metal + water = Metallic hydroxides + Hydrogen
Eg. Na + water = NaOH + Hydrogen
3. Metal + acids = Salt + Hydrogen
Eg. Na + HCl = NaCl + Hydrogen
4. Metal + Bases = Salt + Hydrogen
Eg. Al + 3NaOH = Na3AlO3 + 1.5H2
Non metals -
1. Non metals + Oxygen = Non metallic oxides ( acidic )
Eg. C + O2 = CO2
2. Non metals + Water = No reaction
3. Non metals + Acids = Non metal oxidixzes
Eg. HNO3 + P = H3PO4 + NO + H2O
4. Non metals + Bases = Salt + Water
Eg. HCl + NaOH = NaCl + H2O
