Elements are substances that always consist of only one type of atoms whereas compound includes two or more types.
Explanation:
- Elements are substances that always consist of only one type of atoms which cannot be divided in to two or more atoms, whereas compounds can be formed with two or more different elements (in a fixed proportion) are joined by chemical bonds.
- Elements: H, O, C (element with one type of atom); H2, C6, O2 (element with two type of atom)
- Compounds can be broken in to the purest form of elements using chemical method by breaking the chemical bond between elements. When there is one or more type of molecules bonded together, the prefix like mono, di, tri etc., can be included at the beginning of the element based on the number of atoms present in it.
- Compounds: CO2 (combination of two different atoms- carbon di oxide).
