Vietnam gained independence in 1945 but it took nearly 3 decades of fighting before its formation into Republic of Vietnam Vietnam was developed purely of colonial context and it was under the shadow of Chinese empire even though it gained formal independence Vietnam followed the Chinese system of government and Chinese was the language of Vietnamese In 1858, French set up its colony in Vietnam as they were rich in natural resources French had undertaken development projects so as to establish their power and control in such colonies Rubber plantation was introduced in Vietnam and new land reform measures were undertaken At the same time, French was used as medium of education to civilise and educate Vietnamese Through many movements, struggles of political leaders and political parties, interference of Japan, USA etc Republic of Vietnam was formed in 1974
