Obviously there are innumerable details that differ between living and non-living things. But at its most fundamental, living things are self-goal-directed whereas nonliving things are passive.

The purpose of life is to sustain itself, which means keeping its organisation intact (and replicating) in the face of entropy, which is always threatening is dissolution. Thus life has metabolism: the harvesting and direction of energy in order to build and maintain its structures. Thus life has a genetic code: the blueprints of those structures.

Natural non living things :
Natural non living things are the things in which the god himself do not give life to them but still they have an active roll to play in maintaining the enviroment . They support other living things for eg : water in rivers and streams give life to many animals and humans as it provides safe drinking water to all. It is also the major thrieving habitat for fishes and other aquatic plants and animals. Many other examples are there like air , trees etc.
Man made non living things :
The things which are non living and are made by man for his purpose is known as man made non living things. For ex: A table can be used to keep anything like books , files , clothes etc . Others are rope, pen , pencil , chair etc.
As I am a beginner and this is my first answer plz correct me if I am wrong. Thanks
