Oomycetes form a distinct phylogenetic lineage of fungi. They are filamentous, microscopic organisms that reproduce both sexually and asexually. They have both saprophytic and pathogenic type of nutrition. They are also called water molds

Zygomycete fungi form zygosporangia which are resistant spherical spores formed during sexual reproduction. Zygomycete hyphae may be  coenocytic forming septa only where gametes are formed or to wall off dead hyphae.
