Answer: potential energy is the stored energy in the body at rest.
This energy gets converted into Kinetic energy when set into motion.
Example: a moving pendulum...when it is at the highest point it's v=0;so it posses stored energy or in other words potential energy;wheras when it is at the lowest position it's v=max so it posses motional energy or Kinetic energy
