Adsorption chromatography:

it is defined as a type of chromatography where the solute molecules are directly bound to the surface of the stationary phase.

In simple terms, adsorption chromatography could be explained as a gas or liquid that is adsorbed to a surface of a solid. Stationary phases possess a variety of adsorption sites.

Adsorption chromatography uses mobile phase in liquid or gas state and stationary phase in the solid state.

Adsorption chromatography is a liquid-solid extraction.

Paper chromatography:

it is an analytical method used to separate colored chemicals or substances. It is primarily used as a teaching tool, having been replaced by other chromatography methods, such as thin-layer chromatography.

In paper chromatography, the stationary phase is a special quality paper called chromatography paper.

Mobile phase is a solvent or a mixture of solvents.

Paper chromatography is a liquid-liquid extraction.

Answer :

Paper Chromatography

  • Moisture functions as a stationary phase in the cellulose layers of the filter paper.
  • The mobile phase is an organic solvent or a buffer.
  • In the stationary phase, the more soluble compound will travel slower.

Absorption Chromatography

  • The stationary phase is made up of solid material.
  • As a mobile phase, liquid is used.
  • The elements travel in accordance with their respective affinity.
