Difference between parallel database and distributed database

In Parallel DBMS, multiple processors execute the database operations in Parallel to improve performance. ... All the processors are tightly coupled and located in a single premise. All sites are distributed on separate geographical locations. Sites are connected with high speed LAN and switches.
