  • In chemistry there are usually two types of changes that can take place: physical and chemical.

===================================================================

→  Physical change :

⇒ A physical change is a change in which no new substances are formed.

⇒ Physical changes involve states of matter and energy.

⇒ No new substance is created during a physical change. ( A physical change does not produce a new substance. )

⇒ It  affect the form of a chemical substance, but not its chemical composition.

⇒ Examples of physical changes include crushing a can, melting an ice cube etc...

==================================================================

→ Chemical change :

⇒ Chemical changes are fundamental changes that produce new combinations of matter.

⇒  During a chemical change, substances are changed into different substances.

⇒ It  occur when a substance combines with another to form a new substance

⇒ Examples :  cooking an egg, rusting of an iron pan, and sodium hydroxide to make salt and water etc..

1.The chemical composition of a substance does not change in Physical change.

The chemical composition of a substance does change in Chemical Change.

2.Most changes are reversible in Physical change.

Most changes are irreversible. in Chemical Change.

3.No new substances are formed in Physical Change. For example,

Ice → Water → Steam

New substances are formed in Chemical Change.For example,

Paper → Ashes
