the difference between Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha is that the Lok Sabha, as it name suggest, is the house of people. Members of the Lok Sabha are usually elected once every 5 years. People of India directly elect their representatives to the house on the basis of universal adult franchise.

according to the constitution, 5:30 members can be elected by people from the states and 20 representations can be elected from the union territories. The president has the power to nominate two members from the Anglo Indian community to the Lok Sabha. This is done if they are not properly represented in the house.

the Rajya Sabha is also known as the Council of states, can have a maximum of 250 members. 12 members out of these are nominated by the President of India for their eminence in various fields like music, art and literature. The remaining 238 members are representatives of the states and union territories.

the Vice President of India is the chairperson of the Rajya Sabha. Functions of the chairperson of the Rajya Sabha are same as those of the speaker of the Lok Sabha. He or she is assisted by the deputy chairperson who is elected by the members of the house.
