Rancidity is defined as the slow oxidation of oils and fats preset in food materials resulting in some bad smelling compounds.

Corrosion is basically when the surface of a metal gets eat up.

Rancidity can be prevented using the following methods:

1. Adding antioxidants (substances which prevent oxidation) to food.

2. Storing food in airtight containers to slow the process of rancidification.

3. Refrigerating food also helps to slow down rancidification.

4. Replacing oxygen in the containers with another gas

Explanation:

Rancidity is the spoilage of food; usually by oxidation but I believe it can also occur from bacteria, water, and various other reasons.

Corrosion refers to a wide range of reactions that harm or damage materials. Rust is one of the most common forms, which is also oxidation. But corrosion also has many other forms including crevice, galvanic, pitting, erosion, and stress corrosion.

Both lead to trillions of dollars of lost value to the global economy, and technology is likely to dramatically improve this in the future.
