Explanation:

Rationalisation of government schoolteachers would be done as per the strength of students as on June 30 this year. All regular teachers or under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), Punjab ICT Education Society (PICTES) will be treated as equal for rationalsation. If a teacher is suffering from acute diseases like cancer or kidney, he or she will not be shifted.

As per the rationalisation policy, as many as 35 students in each Class from VI to VIII, 40 in Classes IX and X and 45 in Classes XI and XII would comprise a section. If there are minimum 10 students in Classes XI and XII or a total of 20 students in both classes, or if any specific subject like economics, are available in schools then the subject would be continued in the school.

A principal has been assigned as many as six periods, headmaster 15, lecturer 27 to 30, master/mistress 30-33, computer teachers and classical and vernacular teachers 33-36 per week. If the computer and C&V teachers fall short of periods in their schools, they would be allotted periods in middle schools associated with high or senior secondary schools as per the requirement.

Besides, to inculcate the reading habit among students, a library period has also been kept in timetable.

In primary schools, where the strength of students is less than 51 and the post of head teacher is filled, he or she will be shifted along with the post to a school having strength of students more than 51.

The post of head teacher in the primary schools of different districts would be allocated as per the decreasing order on the basis of strength of the students in the government school.

Moreover, the school principals, who have been promoted from vocational masters, have been asked to ensure to start the vocational stream from the ensuing academic session in their respective schools.

Apart from this, many teachers have demanded that in the rationalisation policy those teachers who have been recruited recently either through promotion or transfers against the surplus posts in the schools should only be asked to shift, while the already working teachers who have started their chapters and studies should not be asked to leave their respective schools.
