Based on the norms of the Government of India, the health institutions in rural areas are divided into 3 main types.
1. Sub-centers (SC)
2. Primary Health Centre (PHC)
3. Community Health center (CHC)
There should be 1 SHC per 3000 population in tribal areas, and per 5000 population
in normal areas.
There should be 1 PHC per 20,000 populations in tribal areas, and per 30,000 populations in normal areas.
There should be 1 CHC per 80,000 populations in tribal areas, and per 120000 populations in normal areas.
At the all India level, there are 9 PHCs for every CHC on an average.
