In a compound gear train, each gear has its own shaft for rotation. Compound gear trains increase power transfer more than simple gear trains. In simple gear trains, the final gear ratio is determined by the driver and driven gears.

Difference between simple compound and epicyclic gear train:
There are different types of gear systems with the primary and most simple gear system having certain gears attached to single shaft and working together with movement of that shaft.
Simple compound gear train:
- The compound gear system is a bit different from the simple gear system and is a bit more complex in the system with mesh of different gears and shafts attach to different gears.
- And every gear being attached to different shaft.
Epicyclic gear train:
- The Epic cycle gear system is a much more complex one, it has inbuilt gear systems to run the efficient gear systems.
- It have combinations of different Shapes in form of ring gears such that the gears are in a locked in position.
