Difference Between Single Acting and Double Acting Cylinders

- A double acting cylinder has both A and B ports, where A pushes the piston down with the entry of oil through it and B pushes it up when oil is diverted to it during retraction. A Single Acting Cylinder has only an A port. Retraction happens through internal spring.
- A double acting cylinder is controlled with joy stick control while single acting has only pressing power.

Reciprocating pumps are of two main types Single acting and Double acting. Now the difference between the two are:-In case of Single acting Reciprocating pump there is only one suction and one delivery pipe and the liquid is filled only on one side of the piston, whereas in double-acting reciprocating pump there are two suction and delivery pipes. Here liquid is received on both sides of the piston in the cylinder and is delivered into the respective delivery pipes.
