difference between soil and sand.. ☺☺

soil is basically a term to generalize form of earth crust that is NOT rock or solid or hard (hard as when you smash it into your table, it wont break off → rock/solid) or crystallize. it classifies into several category based on their characteristics: cohesionless soil/ coarse granular soil(Sand), fine grained soil (Silts and Clay), and Organic (from fossils, dead plants 50 years ago, etc).

Sand is a part of “soil”. the characteristic is cohesionless (c=0), but have something we call friction angle. symbolized by greek letter phi. it’s coarse grained soil, usually product of rock erosion, have different colour depending on the origin material. like those grey “construction grade” sand comes from volcanic rocks, while yellow “low strength” or “embankment material” soil usually from alluvial deposits or sandstone. there are also pink one (found in Flores Island, Indonesia), reddish, white (from tuff), black (from basalt), and brown.
