Handshaking usually uses two additional hardware lines, one is called “strobe” and the other is called “acknowledge”. The sender provides the signal to the strobe line and the receiver provides the signal to the acknowledge line. Handshaking can be used in both parallel data transfer and serial data transfer.

The difference between strobe and handshaking are as follows:
Explanation:
- A strobe signal is sent by the signal sender without caring about the signal receiver whereas the handshaking is a communication in which the signal is send by the sender and received by the receiver.
- A strobe signal is uni-directional mode of communication, whereas the handshaking signal is bi-directional mode of communication.
- The strobe signal checks for the hold time and transmission time, whereas the handshaking does not matter about the hold time and transmission time.
