Distance is the actual path covered by an object between two points. It is a scalar quantity.

Displacement is the shortest path that can be covered by an object between two points. It is a vector quantity.

Distance: It is a scalar quantity. It contains only magnitude. It is used to calculate speed. It can only positive have values.


Displacement : It is a vector quantity. It contains both magnitude and direction. It is used to calculate velocity. It can have both positive and negative values.
