GUTTATION :
1) loss of liquid droplets
2) takes place during early morning or night time
3) droplets contains xylem sap
4) it takes place from margin of the xylem elements ( hydathode)

TRANSPIRATION:
1)loss of water vapour
2) takes during daytime night times
3)diffused vapours have only water
4)it takes place from stomata

The differences between guttation and transpiration are as follows :-

Transpiration

  • Transpiration results in cooling of the plant body since it is the process of  evaporation.
  • Water is lost from aerial parts of the part in the form of vapour.
  • Water vapour is lost through stomata , lenticels and cuticle.
  • Pure water changes to water vapour during the process.
  • Stomatal transpiration is regulated by the guard cells.
  • Transpiration occurs in the presence of sunlight.
  • It occurs only during dry conditions
  • It may lead to turgidity in leaf cells to cause wilting.

Guttation

  • Guttation has no effect of cooling in the plant.
  • Water is lost in the form of water droplets from the plant body
  • Water droplets are lost through pores called hydathodes found at the ends of veins.
  • Water lost contains mineral salts in solution.
  • There is no regulation of guttation ........ the opening of hydathodes cannot be regulated.
  • It only occurs at night or in early morning.
  • It occurs during humid conditions ( opposite to transpiration )
  • There is no phenomenon of turgidity.

Hope it helps you
