Difference between the harmful effect of biodegradable and non biodegradable waste
Answers
Answer:
Biodegradable waste
biodegradable waste are the waste that decompose in soil it has very less harmful effects than non biodegradable material.
Non biodegradable waste
Non biodegradable waste are the waste that not decompose in soil.
It is very harmful it only recycled
Hey there .
Biodegradable wastes pollute the environment only when they are in excess in the environment. They can affect the environment in the following ways:
1. They generate a large amount of microbial flora around the wastes. These microbes can cause many communicable diseases in humans, plants and animals.
2. These wastes generate bad odour on burning due to the release of certain gases.
3. Heaps of such wastes are the breeding grounds for carriers and vectors like mosquitoes and rats which spread so many communicable diseases.
HARMFUL EFFECTS OF NON-BIODEGRADABLE WASTES
1. Excessive use of non-biodegradable wastes like chemical pesticides (D.D.T) and fertilizers make the soil acidic or alkaline thereby affecting the soil fertility.
2. These substances can also be washed away from the fields into the nearby water bodies thereby affecting aquatic life and promoting algal blooms. This phenomenon is termed as eutrophication.
3. Poisonous substances like D.D.T when enter any food chain, being non-biodegradable, they keep on accumulating progressively at each trophic level. Since humans occupy the topmost trophic level in any food chain, the maximum concentration of these chemicals can be traced in human bodies. This phenomenon is termed as biological magnification
