Nervous system is made up of visual system, auditory system, motor system, vestibular system, olfactory system, etc. You can break up a system and study each subsystem as a “whole system” by itself. The animal has to be alive for the system to work.

Nervous tissue is the physical part of the nervous system one can see and touch, whether it is dead or alive. Brain is tissue, spinal cord is tissue, and peripheral nerve is tissue. However, if I take a peripheral nerve while it is still alive, stimulate it at one end, and record at the other end, now I am studying the peripheral nerve bundle as a system.
