Permanent lakes refer to those lakes which have been formed due to melting of glaciers or because of some perennial flowing river.
These types of usually comprise of fresh water.
Seasonal lakes refer to those lakes which are formed during the rainy season.
These lakes consist of only rainwater and once the seasons is over the lakes do not exist anymore.

- Permanent lakes contain water throughout the year.
- They were formed when glaciers dug out a basin which was later filled with snow melt.
- For example:- Wular lake, Dal lake , Bhimtal Nainital etc.
- Seasonal lakes contain water only during the rainy season.
- The lakes in the basin of inland drainage of semi-arid regions are seasonal in nature.
