not sure why you want specifically 10 differences lol .. heres a few ..

Firstly, some perspective is useful - in most countries in the world farming remains a family business/way of life so it remains traditional.. and these systems produce most of the world’s food by the way .. Africa, Asia, South and Central America

●In western / 1st world / advanced economies farming has changed.. most of the points below are interrelated to one most important factor and that is the cost of doing business ..

●costs have decreased profits and many small family farms are gone cause they cannot pay the bills .. they have not adapted to changing circumstances.. why is another subject ..

●Consumers (demanding, intelligent and aware urbanites but detached from the challenges of farming ) want quality in the food they buy - great food at a cost they can afford .. this drives the farmers (big and small) to stay in line .. and it costs money .. continually investing in new systems

●Farming traditionally is hard physical work - have no doubts about that - its impossible to ask a young man to do things traditionally now - its too hard and he wont do it .. consequently we have to make changes to a) how we do it and b) how much we pay them

cost of labour has risen and the number of employees on farms decreased. Farms now aim at employing the least number of workers they can. This necessitates updating systems and processes and we see great innovations in recent years. Big machines/facilities that can do huge amounts of work in hours that once took 20 men / women weeks to do ..

●Farms are bigger now so that they deliver more efficiency in order to cover overheads and higher profit margins - more corporate farming due to heavy burden on finance for smaller family owned businesses

●Corporate farming is driven by shareholders which often sees them detached from the operations and the people on the land. We see loss of ethics sometimes and less feeling for the land itself and the animals we farm.. not always but its a challenge for the ethos of the larger businesses

●I risk repeating myself to go on .. i hope you get the drift but .. in many ways farming doesn’t change. The days are just as dusty and hot as they used to be .. cows still behave the same way as do crops need water and TLC

… we still love the land amidst all its heartache and challenges
