Pn junctions are formed by joining two different type of semiconductor material i.e. p-type semiconductor on one side and n-type semiconductor on another side.
A p-n junction with two metallic contacts is known as p-n junction diode or semiconductor diode. To understand the behavior of p-n junction we make it conducting by applying an external voltage over a range of 0v, 5v, 10v and determine how the current passed through the p-n junction varies with increasing voltage levels. We usually connect two metallic contacts at the ends of the p-n junction to apply external voltage
