Solution :

Let

Those numbers be x and y

★ Difference between them

→ x - y = 4

→ x = 4 + y ...i)

★ Product of them

x × y = 96 ...ii)

Put the value of x in eq ii)

→ (4 + y) y = 96

→ 4y + y² = 96

Now, it's in the form of quadratic equation

• y² + 4y - 96 = 0

Split the middle term

• y² + 12y - 8y - 96 = 0

Take common

• y (y + 12) - 8 (y + 12)

Rearrange together

• (y - 8) (y + 12)

Now

y = 8 or -12

Let's take the value y = 8

• first number = y = 8
• second number = x = 4 + y = 4 + 8 = 12
