A bisexual species refers to a species with distinct genders, male and female (in all bisexual life on Earth), but also to an individual organism with characteristics of both genders (also called a hermaphrodite). Unisexual means two different things as well. In a bisexual species, it means that each individual of a species exhibits characteristics of only one gender. A human male is unisexual, because he has only male characteristics, even though his species is bisexual, also having females present. Unisexual can also mean that the species as a whole has only one gender. There are some lizard species that have only females and reproduce through parthenogenesis. These are unisexual individuals of a unisexual species.
