V-shaped valley :

1. V-shaped valley are carved out by river in their youthful stages.

2. They are original in nature, i.e. they are formed by the erosional actions of the rivers.

3. Their shapes are of the letter ‘V’of English alphabet.

4. They are associated with gorges, canyon etc.

U-shaped valley : 

1. U-shaped valleys are casual by glaciers in hilly regions.

2. They are modified forms of pre-existing valleys.

3. Their shapes are that of the letter ‘U’ of the English alphabet.

4. They are associated with hanging valleys.

They both are formed as a result of flowing water

i.e. rivers cutting down into the formations over which they flow. This happens as a result of a difference between the baseline of the river in its early stages and the final body of water it flows into.

The river cuts into the rocks below till the baseline becomes the same.

V-shaped valleys are formed by the erosion of rivers. U-shaped valleys are formed by glaciers.

U shaped valleys are formed becoz of the erosional work of glaciers whereas the v shaped valleys are formed by the work of river.
