Variable resistors means that a resistor which can change its resistance by control by any person or itself.
Examples are : Rheostat, Potentiometers and Presets
Fixed resistor means that it can not change its value.
Examples are: Wire wound resistors, Metal film resistors, Thick film and Thin film resistors
