Nonkeratinized squamous epithelium covers the soft palate, inner lips, inner cheeks, and the floor of the mouth, and ventral surface of the tongue. ... Unlike keratinized epithelium, nonkeratinized epithelium normally has no superficial layers showing keratinization.
