Teachers were given a significant role in Vedic Period. During the vedic period, a teacher was referred as GURU, a person who control the darkness or ignorance among his students. The name GURU itself refers to GU-darkness and Ru –controller.

The role of a teacher is to educate his students with materialistic, physical and spiritual knowledge. In the vedic period, Gurus are considered as another father for their students.
