SIMILARITIES:
At first I thought it might've been just me, but since BLACKPINK made their comeback, many more fans have come forward and admitted that they see many similarities between the girls and BTS.
I also think Jin looks a bit like Jisoo. They have extremely similar facial features such as a long, slightly upturned nose, their mouths both tilt up on the right corner a little and they have the same dark, innocently-shaped eyes. It's so adorable.
DIFFERENCE:
An analyst from Hana Global Investment recently laid out some nice information that could prove useful for YG Entertainment in securing BLACKPINK‘s current market presence even stronger.
While the YG Entertainment girl group has beaten BTS‘s record of accumulating 150 million views on YouTube in the fastest time, they still have a few obstacles to overcome if they hope to become the first K-Pop girl group to make an impact on the world’s music market in a similar way that BTS did. BLACKPINK was able to reach 150 million views on YouTube with their latest single ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ in twenty-one days, beating BTS’s record of accomplishing it within twenty-four days.
The analyst pointed out that while BLACKPINK was able to enter Billboard’s radar with their overwhelming amount of views on YouTube, they were unable to maintain their position on US charts as well as BTS as Billboard’s Hot 100 policy changed since the beginning of March this year.
The criteria for chart positions on the Hot 100 charts take paid advertisement free subscriptions of all streaming platforms including YouTube and Spotify. This means that BTS clearly has an advantage since a large portion of ARMY are YouTube Red premium users, ultimately having an impact on BTS’s position on the charts.
BLACKPINK have been presented a big opportunity but must release more contents and releases in the upcoming future if they wish to secure their presence in premium streaming platforms, primarily users in North and South America.
