Hello Aryan,
The chief differences are as follows:
- The main occupation and economy in the Early Vedic Period was pastoralism which means that the cattle was the chief source of wealth. In the Later Vedic Period, however, the chief source of wealth was land and agriculture became the most important occupation.
- Women were highly respected in the Early Vedic Period. There were learned scholars like Maitreyi and Gargi. They participated in the productive process of house. They could choose their husbands. In the later vedic period, the position of women was made subordinate to men. They no longer formed a part of the assembly.
- Social distinction in the early vedic period was made between Aryans and local inhabitants called Dasyus. In Later Vedic Period, social distinction was drawn on the vernacular system of hierarchy or caste system, which divided the society into Brahmins(Priests), Kshatriyas (Warriors and kings), Vaishyas(Traders and businessman) and Shudras( Labourers or untouchables).
