Volcanic Mountains - are mountains that form when molten rock erupts onto the Earth's surface. They can either form on land or in the ocean. whereas Fold mountains are mountains formed mainly by the effects of folding on layers within the upper part of the Earth's crust.

these mountains form when faults or cracks in the earth's crust force some material or blocks of rocks up and other down .instead of the earth folding over ,the earths crust fractures or pulls apart ......often block mountains have a steep friend side and a sloping back side.
