HDI- Human development index (HDI) is an index created to measure the quality of life of people in a country and it includes three parameters- life expectancy, literacy and per capita income. it's value ranges from 0 to 1 and it is considered a better measure than PQLI for the measurement of development.

PQLI- Physical quality of life index(PQLI) on the other hand includes only physical variables such as infant mortality, adult literacy and life expectancy etc. it's value ranges between 0 to 100. this method is criticized because it only includes physical and quantitative factors.
