the difference in monocot  plant and dicot plant is 

in an monocot plant there is only one single cotyledon.
a cotyledon is an embroyic leaf in seed bearing plants.
a dicot plant is a plant in which two cotyledons are present.

NOTE-mono means single and di means double

venation of the monocot leaves is parallel type mostly
only one cotyledon is present
dicot plants: root type is taproot system
venation is net type
two cotyledons are present
