differences between osmosis and diffusion
Answers
Answer:
difference between diffusion and Osmosis are
Diffusion
- diffusion can occur in any medium.
- the diffusing molecules may be solid liquid or gases.
- it is dependent upon the free energy of the molecules.
- semipermeable membrane is not required.
Osmosis
- it occurs in liquid medium.
- it involves movement of solvent molecules only.
- though it is the diffusion of solvent molecules only.
- semipermeable membrane is required.

Difference between diffusion and osmosis
DIFFUSION
Diffusion is defined as the process of movement of substances from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration across the membrane.
Example : If we add a drop of ink in water , it diffuses with the rest of water and colours it. Similarly, the fragrance of a burning incense stick placed in a corner of the room spreads in the whole room due to diffusion in air.
OSMOSIS
Osmosis is defined as the process of movement of solvent particles from a region of their high concentration to that of low concentration across a semi–permeable membrane.
Example : In case of sugar solution, plasma membrane is permeable to water molecules, but impermeable to smaller to large sugar molecules.
In other words ,osmosis occurs in the direction of higher solute concentration and lower solvent concentration.
