voltage: when one joule of work is done to carry one columb of charge from one point to another is called electric potential or voltage

Voltage is potential difference between the two points.

Current is flow of electric charge through a conductor.

When there is a potential difference between the two points then the current flows between the two points. Therefore, potential is a cause and current is the effect.

Ohm's law provides a relation between voltage and current.
