in diamond each carbon is attached to four other carbon. forming sp3 hybridization and it has refractive index of 2.42

also it don't conduct electric current or heat. it has great lustre

in graphite each carbon is attached to the 3other carbon and 1is left free and has sp2 hybridization.

it conduct electricity and heat

it is dark greyish in colour and most stable form. it's very smooth and use to make lead pencils
