The usage procedure of a mariner's compass is -
• At first the compass is put on a flat surface. (*Smooth surface with the minimum amount of slope)
• Then we have to wait until the dial of the compass becomes completely stationary.
• Then we can easily get the idea of direction, because whatever the orientation of the compass is,the two magnetic poles will always stay at a north-south direction.
• After determining the north and south direction,we can easily figure out the other directions too. (Eg. East,West etc.)
