Ovary is the female organ of a flower and is in the base portion of pistil that is the combined portion including the ovary, stigma and style. In all flowering plants, ovules are located inside ovary. There may be one or more ovules and they remain attached to the wall of the ovary through funiculus. Inside the flower is anther where male reproduction takes place. At maturity, anther splits, releasing pollen. This pollen gets transferred to pistil either through the action of winds or through an insect or animal. This transfer of pollen from anther to pistil is known as pollination. As told earlier, a pistil consists of an ovary, stigma, and style. When pollen sitting on pistil matures and ruptures, releasing sperms that causes fertilization of ovules and ovary.
Ovules mature at the same time ovary is maturing and turn into seeds while the ovary turns into a mature fruit. You must have noticed scores of seeds inside a watermelon while there is only one seed inside the fruit of peach. It means that there were many ovules inside the ovary in the case of watermelon while there was only a single ovules inside the ovary in a peach plant.
