When a beam of light fall in the glass slab it get refract twice one from air to glass and another glass to air, and their imaginary ray and refracted ray looks like parallel this shifting of ray is called lateralshift..whereas in glass prism, when the white light fall on the first surface of prism it change their imaginary path and fall on the another surface and after all it scatter so many colours of light like (VIBGYOR) this scattering of light is called dispersion of light.. And also shows the white light is the combination of so many colours.

(1)In glass prism the refracting surfaces are inclined on one another while in a glass slab, refracting surfaces are parallel to one another.

(2)In a glass slab the angle of incidence is always equal angle of emergence, while in prism the angle of incidence is equal to angle of emergence only in case of minimum deviation.
