 Minerals are naturally occurring inorganic solids with a crystalline structure and a definite range of chemical formula. Ores are concentrations of minerals in rock that are high enough to be economically extracted for use.

Ores :-

Ores are the minerals from which metals are extracted.

1. Minerals :-

  • All ores are minerals.
  • Minerals make up of rocks.
  • There are 4000+ minerals known today.
  • There are three types of minerals :- Igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic.
  • Examples :- quartz, mica, calcite etc.

2. Ores :-

  • Ores are the minerals from which metals are extracted.
  • All ores are minerals.
  • Ore contains good percentage (%) of metal.
  • There are four types of ores :- Oxides, sulphides, carbonate ores and halide ores.
  • Examples :- cinnabar, an ore of zinc, sphalerite etc.
