Differentiate between atoms and molecules .​

Atoms are the smallest parts of a substance. These consist of protons, neutrons and electrons.

Molecules are made up of atoms.

Atoms:

  1. An atom has a nucleus surrounded by electrons.
  2. It is not possible to breakdown the atom further retaining the properties of the element.
  3. Atoms are not visible to the naked eye  .

Molecules:

  1. Molecules are formed by the combination of two or more atoms.
  2. Molecules can be divided into groups. But, cannot be further divided into sub-groups.For instance, Water can be divided into hydrogen and oxygen. But, hydrogen and oxygen cannot be divided into sub-groups.
  3. Molecules also are not visible to the naked eye, while can be seen through highly magnifying microscopes .
