The capacity is the biggest difference between CD and DVD. CD, short for Compact Disc, is an optical medium that can store digital data.

A standard DVDcan hold 4.7 GB of data. So DVD is widely used to store large files like video and movies.

Compact Disk - CD

CD stands for compact disk and this is commonly used by us and this is an optical storage media, we can storage movies in this and also this is a circular disk it has a reflective coating on it. A single CD can only store data up-to 700 MB ( 700 Mega Bytes ) this may measure 4.7 inches. A CD has many speciality this can hold many times of data such as audio, video, text, graphics, images etc.. This can also be used for doing data back-up which is recovering of deleted or missing data , holding software.

Digital Versatile Disk - DVD

DVD stands for digital versatile disk or also know as "digital video disk" this is also a optical storage like a CD , this is used for data store and for recording movies with high video and sound quality ,DVD looks similar shape like CD but DVD can store a huge amount of data/information , it's storage capacity is about 4.1 GB to 17 GB (GB stands for Giga Byte).
