Differentiate between closed and open coil helical spring.

Since the open-coiled helical springs are not wound very tightly, the pitch of the spring is much greater. Due to the space between the coils, one round of the spring does not lie in the same plane as the axis of the helix. Hence, no two turns of a spring will lie in the same plane.
