Most people believe that the terms "data" and "information" are interchangeable and mean the same thing. However, there is a distinct difference between the two words. Data can be any character, text, words, number, pictures, sound, or video and, if not put into context, means little or nothing to a human.

Data:

Data is a thing which is in raw form. It is a thing without any structure and processing. In short, we can say that data is a thing which is not in useful form. For example, students roll numbers and their marks make data.

Information:

Data in processed, structured, and useful form is known as information. When marks sheets are formed from the data (from students roll numbers and marks) then it becomes information.
