When a parallel beam of light strikes a smooth surface, such as a plane mirror, it is reflected as parallel beam. This is called regular reflection.

Rough surfaces, such as frosted glass, kitchen tiles,rough paper and cloth, reflect light in all directions. This is because light rays are reflected off the rough surface at different angles. This is called diffuse or irregular reflection
