A Dip is a general and gradual slope downwards, while a Scarp is a very steep bank or slope downwards.
The two actually mean the same – both are downward slopes. The difference between the two being that, Dip is generally used in gradual downward slopes whereas Scarp is used for very steep, perpendicular downward slopes. Scarp is another word for escarpment.
