Differentiate between distance and didplacement
Answers
Answer:
DISTANCE - The path covered by the object from starting till the ending point. (measuring the whole path covered by that object.)
Example -
An object moved from point A to point B and then again to the point A.
Let the distance between A and B be 5m. So, the total distance covered by that object is (5 + 5+ 5)m = 15m
DISPLACEMENT - The shortest distance between the initial and the final point.
Example -
Consider that same example, the object would cover 0m because it's initial and final point is point A only.
THAT'S DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DISTANCE AND DISPLACEMENT.
Explanation:
Distance is a scalar quantity and displacement is a vector quantity.... Displacement is measured with reference to a specific point. It is a straight line from the starting point(origin) to the end point. It is therefore also the shortest distance between two points.
